So, in the field of IoT, generalists are giving way to specialists. Here we list down 10 emerging job roles in the space of Internet of Things.
IoT Product Manager
This is the professional who focuses on the execution part of the project. His role spans engagement from development to marketing to various routes to market. He/she partners with the development teams to take care of requirements and implementations.
An architect primary role is to convert ideas into design and design into working code. He/she might not be the actual developer, but is the one that takes up a requirement and then transform them into a solution blueprint or landscape. They map business needs to system & technical requirements.
This is the hands-on professional who gets down to the basic and creates the actual code.
Industrial data scientists
Internet of things generates huge about of data and wherever you find data, you will see a need to have analytics on top of it. This is creating a completely new genre of Data scientists who are experts on working with sensor data. These are professionals that are well versed with data science and are specifically well versed in applying analytics to sensor data and eventually to Internet of things.
The responsibility of robot coordinator will be to supervise the robots on the shop floor and counter any breakdowns or miscalculation. This professional executes both repetitive and disaster recovery duties.
While the IoT developer looks into the software part of IoT stack, industrial engineer takes care of the hardware part of Internet of Things. Hardware is the most important component of Internet of Things stack. Industrial engineer programs Robots and smart devices.
Industrial UI/UX designer
The top of the IoT stack is dashboards or visual screens that end users look at. These are interfaces that are either used to control the sensors or to examine the data coming out of it.
UI/UX designer would be integral part of the IoT professional ecosystem where this professional would take requirements on the end dashboard and would actually go on to design them.
Chief Internet of Things Officer (CIoTO)
We are yet to see this job title open up, but its imperative that companies in some key industries would find it inevitable to have a c-level job dedicated solely on IoT.
Fuller Stack Developer
IoT pushes developers to go beyond just full stack. Given the complex nature of various components fitting within the whole IoT stack, the developer of future would need to go beyond just software, but also incorporate hardware programming to their skillsets.
Industrial Networking engineer
This job role requires creative and talented engineers with experience in developing high-quality networking products on schedule. Again, networking is an important component of IoT and we would require separate networking engineers that over time have gathered expertise in developing networking capabilities for IoT devices.
